Exmux

2008 April 25

I finished my muxtape yesterday, check it out. I chose to include the song “Situation” by Ex-Boyfriends and not just because my friend Chriso is in the band. The song is fun with just enough pop to make your feet all your body parts move! Here is the video for “Situation”:

I’ve had fantasies like this, only now it’s been set to music.

In other – depressing – news, I overslept and missed my chance to buy a 3-day pass to All Tomorrow’s Parties. Whatev’z, I suppose I’ll just pay bills or something. Granted, I can still attend the festival but I would need to order a pass and a 6-berth room stay. Any five people up for attending the show? Anyone have an extra 3-day pass? Don’t be shy, now.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

Good morning to all from my old stomping ground, Wiesbaden Germany!

Yesterday was a great day. We left Stuttgart and went to Darmstat. The first place we stopped was the chapel that I met Glenda at. We stood in the very same place where we first spoke. As Joel Johnson would say, it was "al-so0mme." We went to see Glenda's old housing area and ate lunch where she use to work as a waitrest.

We left there and headed to Wiesbaden. We went to Miens-schtel where Chaplen Barnett and I watched the first run move called "Airplane." We searched the internet for information about my old post Camp Pieri to no avail. Gary came up with the idea to check with the USO who made come calls and came up with an address. We puched it into the GPS and headed out to no where! I knew it was on a hill so Gary turned and went up. We found it! It did not look much like it did when I lived there as it has been converted into residential living but the lay of the land was the same and that is how I found it. I made pictures and looked around a while and let the memories flow through. It was fun for me to go back there.

We checked into a army hotel in Wiesbaden, which was really nice, had a nice dinner there and then went to a movie. We are getting ready to leave here now and since I found a computer in the lobby, thought I would drop you all a line.

I hope all is well there.

We love you all and will type to you later.

Dad/Mom

I am in Denver this week. Yesterday I arrived in 81° weather that climbed steadily to 90°. Today it’s been snowing. Tomorrow the weather should reach the low 60s. This place makes no sense. None.

I reserved a rental car for the week from Budget and was given a new Ford Edge. Driving an SUV makes me part of the problem, not part of the solution. But damn if I didn’t feel safer on the roads this evening.

CDs in the car with me this week: Thievery Corporation’s The Outernational Sound, Goldfrapp’s Seventh Tree, A Place To Bury Strangers’ self-titled, Erykah Badu’s New Amerykah, and Poni Hoax’ self-titled. I should have brought Duffy with me, too.

One of the better parts of the trip? Access to Dazbog Coffee. Praise!

Lookeeme! I’m a Typographer!

2008 April 09

From the moment I saw the splash page for FontStruct I knew FontShop was responsible for such genius—color palette aside. If you don’t know what FontStruct is, you will when the web is quickly flooded with fonts created with this tool. I think a lot of the fonts made will resemble bitmap predecessors (Émigré? Anyone?) for a brief period of time, but expect to see some fantastic styles develop.

I think this site just replaced any other online distraction I’ve ever known or loved. But then again, I am a whore for typography.

Now just where the hell do I put all these on my blog? And will I have still have room for blinky text? These questions keep me drinking at night.

Leaving the sunshine behind

2008 April 01

15 minutes or so ago, CITIZENDANGERX boarded a plane (first class, natch) for his new home in L.A. Two years ago we exchanged e-mails after liking each other’s flickr sets, and last year I had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time. Apparently I was unaware of how big a celebrity (in his own mind) he is (was) in Seattle, I should never have washed my hands after touching him. Everything else, however, is another story—but I digress.

If you live in L.A. (why?), you should make it a point to reach out and touch CDX. He’s funny, charming, totally full of himself and riddled with talent. And issues. For days. But in a good way, like watching Punky Brewster coming to terms with puberty.
