Two years ago I bought an iPhone 3G. I never desired the iPhone – I bought myself the first generation PRADA mobile by LG and I ♥ that phone wholeheartedly – I only bought one because my former business partners wanted our company to design and develop iPhone apps. In order to build these apps, we needed iPhones. I couldn’t argue with that logic so I packed away my PRADA mobile, canceled my contract with T-Mobile, and waited in line with every other crazed consumer for hours to own the iPhone 3G. My phone bill with T-Mobile was well under $80 a month. My original phone bill with AT&T was close to $160 a month, based on services I always had with T-Mobile. Based on my monthly usage for minutes et al, I was able to reduce my monthly bill to $130. So not … Continue reading →

Hey kids! Fun story. Know what happens when you install the new WordPress 3.0 beta? It breaks your previous template! And then you don’t have anything to show people except a blank screen. How fun is that? Oh, the good times. Stay tuned, I am incredibly busy and will hopefully have all sorts of good news to share with you. And maybe a working WordPress template. Who knows!

So let’s have a chat about blogs and newspapers. Seattle is home to many a newspaper, now one less with the passing of Seattle Post-Intelligencer in print format, two of which are free weekly publications: Seattle Weekly and The Stranger. In order to maintain reader interest beyond a laissez-faire interest, both weekly publications have online blogs that track daily life in Seattle, as well as nationally and globally. Both publications are known for their reporting and commentary that often cross acerbic and sardonic lines. As such, each publication attracts a certain kind of reader that associates with its personality. Commenters often provide observations and opinions in tones that similarly match the authors’ and publication’s point of view. Community is naturally formed as a result of the bonds established between the producers and receivers—it’s also not unlikely for commenters to build/form alliances with each other. … Continue reading →

Timing is everything on the Internet, which means I need to set aside more time to compose my thoughts. But that’s another post for another time. So, like, what’s this twitter stuff people in the states seem to be fond of? So, Twitter. What the hell is it? What does it do? Why does everyone talk about it so much? How do I use it? How am I going to make money using it? These are all very good questions, and, naturally, they’re pointless to ask. This is 2009 and the site has been around for years. That you are only catching on to this tool mean you should be ashamed of yourself for even asking these questions. For shame. Now go take up something like knitting to tidy your idle hands and lackadaisical interest for all things internet. Twitter allows people with too … Continue reading →

Since 2003 I was doing all my design work on a 17″ PowerBook G4 with a 17″ Studio Display. Five years later, I upgraded my design studio for a desktop and larger display. I decided to transfer my files from the PowerBook and sell my older studio on craigslist. The ad short and sweet and the sticker price was under $1000. I received a few responses from people who disappeared after an initial round of communication. Then I received an e-mail from a guy in New York City. To be honest, his response didn’t raise any red flags since he seemed interested in the studio and, frankly, it’s a great deal. He inquired if I would accept payment via PayPal, I replied yes. I took the studio to a shipping store for an estimate and e-mailed the total costs of the studio and shipping. … Continue reading →

I have to say, working with WordPress is a lot easier than MovableType. My physical involvement with the theme components has focused mostly on the style sheet. I looked at the themes offered by WordPress, viewed the source code of the sample page, then revised the default CSS file to match my theme. I uploaded the files, activated the theme, and made minor changes to the stylesheet thereafter. Working in MovableType was never this easy. Also, if you are using an iPhone or iPod Touch, you will now experience a very light version of my blog courtesy of iWPhone WordPress Plugin and Theme. Many thanks to Grapefeed for the tip.
