Poof Pastries

Brand Identity, Site Design

Poof Pastries is a one-man operation dedicated to the craft of a better vegan cupcake. An identity and color palette were needed to market his cupcakes with a fun, upbeat tone. The one requirement for this project: there’s no such thing as too much orange.

Looks so good you just want to take a bite

Poof Pastries is all about the cupcake, and with so many cupcakeries in Seattle it’s important to stand apart from the competition—even the non-vegan ones. I contacted my friend Mike Segawa to create an illustration of a cupcake that would be used for a brand identity. Mike’s illustrative style is fun and upbeat, so I wasn’t worried about design restrictions or requirements. (And a cupcake can never be too fun in its presentation.)

Once Mike delivered the goods, I paired his illustration with a typeface that kept this cottage industry quirky and right at home in a kitchen. The colors in the visual identity influenced the color palette for the website, so all that remained was creating a web presence. Leveraging Blogger as a content management system, it’s easy as pie (sadly, not a cupcake) to customize a visual layout and design. And free hosting means Poof Pastries can share photos and recipes on the internet without additional costs beyond baking supplies.
